Niger: Police refute heightened crime rates in Minna

Niger State Police Command has moved swiftly to debunk rumours of heightened crime rates in Minna, reassuring residents that the situation is under control.

According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, recent reports of residents living in fear of high crime rates are unfounded and misrepresent the actual situation on the ground.

“It is important to state that the Police Command has over time embraced different security measures in addressing challenges of crime in Minna metropolis and the State as a whole, which has been very helpful and fruitful,” he stated.

In fact, the Command has made significant strides in addressing crime challenges in Minna metropolis. A recent operation led to the arrest of over 20 suspects involved in illegal mining activities at M.I Wushishi Estate.

The Police also recovered arms, ammunition, and a vehicle, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining law and order.

Additionally, the Command has clarified that a recent protest in Minna was not related to bandit threats, but rather a demonstration against economic hardships. A 30-year-old woman, Aisha Jibrin, was arrested alongside 24 others for leading the protest.

Commissioner of Police CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman has reassured the public that the Police will continue to prioritise security of lives and property.
