Niger Police Command establishes joint operation centre

In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, for inter-agency collaboration in fighting crime and criminality, the Niger State Police Command has said that it has adopted same mechanism in fighting crime in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, on Tuesday, in Minna, told Metro that the collaboration required men of the command, Army, Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Service (DSS), Nigeria Customs Service and the Vehicle Inspection Office working together in unity.

Elkana said the new innovation culminated in the establishment of a Joint Operation Centre at the command headquarters in Minna, where officers and men of all the security agencies in conjunction would work on 24-hour basis to combat crime.

He added that heads of all security agencies in the state, with the Police Commissioner Zubairu Muazu as chairman, formed a strategic team which would meet regularly on the way to tackle emerging crimes and deploy men appropriately.

“All the arms-carrying agencies bring arms in the event that such operation is tactical in nature and will require arms,” he further disclosed.

He disclosed that the innovation had created a synergy among all the security agencies working for the same goal of bringing crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the state.
