Niger: Police assure adequate security for Eid-El-Fitr celebration

Following the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has directed Heads of Departments (HODs), Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, the Intelligence Unit, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to adopt proactive measures through intelligence-led policing and the raiding of black spots within their areas of responsibility. This is aimed at ensuring a seamless and peaceful Sallah celebration.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated this in a press statement made available to journalists on Friday in Minna.

He highlighted that the CP further directed officers to mobilize operational assets such as anti-riot water cannons, gun trucks, and patrol vehicles, and to ensure the adequate deployment of police personnel for visibility policing, show of force, and public space dominance to maintain water-tight security arrangements before, during, and after the festivities.

In addition, he directed Tactical Commanders to ensure the sufficient deployment of tactical teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear (EOD-CBRN), Tactical Support Team (TST), and Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Command to Eid grounds, recreation centers, amusement parks, and other strategic public places in the State.

The Command hereby advises members of the public, parents, and guardians to maintain a firm grip on their wards and caution them, as the Police and other security agencies will not tolerate any acts of thuggery or youth disorder during and after the festive period. Therefore, anyone found fomenting trouble will be dealt with in accordance with the law. The CP urges everyone to celebrate responsibly and extends his felicitations to Nigerlites and the Muslim Ummah in the State on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, which symbolizes sacrifice, love, and tolerance. He calls on followers to uphold these values.
