Niger govt partners NRC for safe transportation of farm produce

Niger State Government has continued discussion with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to ensure a solid partnership for safe transportation of farm produce within Nigeria by rail.

The discussion was held with the Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, at the Palace of Oniru of Iruland, Victoria Island, Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II.

The Governor, who said Niger State has keyed into the Food Security initiative of the Federal Government, highlighting that it is doing well, noted that partnering with the NRC will be a boost.

He observed that logistical difficulties have always been a major challenge associated with post harvest but expressed optimism that collaborating with NRC will put an end to the challenges.

The Governor appreciated the Oniru of Iruland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II for his warmth reception and continuous support to him and his administration.

The Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa in his remarks assured the Governor that the Corporation will support his administration with logistics and the supply chain process within the country as they are parts of its mandates.

He said the NRC has aligned with the renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will support every state of the federation and businesses, involved in productive ventures.

Dr. Opeifa said the Corporation will also ensure that the farm produce get to their destinations at a good price and in a well-preserved condition to achieve the food security agenda of the Federal Government.

The Oniru of Iruland, reiterated his support to the Niger State government to actualize the Food Security initiative under the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.

He disclosed that he had met severally with the Chairman of Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun, Minister of Finance who also doubles as the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun on how to make Niger Foods thrive for Lagos State to benefit, being a commercial capital of the country, with high population.

The Oba described the Chairman of Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun as audacious, good, and resourceful, adding that with him, supporting the farmer Governor in the Agric space, a lot will be achieved.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun said the Niger State government is working tirelessly to seal the deal with the NRC considering its importance.

He expressed hope that within a short time, train services between Minna and Lagos states will resume.
