The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has unveiled an ambitious plan to rehabilitate and construct a total of 1,500 kilometres of roads over the next four years.
Governor Bago made this announcement at the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation and construction of 202 kilometres of Minna township roads.
Governor Bago emphasised that these road projects are integral to his administration’s aggressive urban renewal policy, which aims to bring about significant transformation in the state.
He acknowledged that Niger State is host to a substantial number of Federal roads, and his government is in discussions with the Presidency regarding the reimbursement of funds that will be invested in Federal road projects.
The Governor encouraged the youth to capitalise on the road projects to secure employment opportunities, highlighting that both materials and human resources will be sourced locally.
He also disclosed that the state government, through the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, will implement an empowerment scheme for individuals engaged in businesses around the construction sites.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Suleiman Umar, provided details about the project, which comprises a total of 202.4 kilometres of roads categorised into two phases.
Phase one encompasses eight roads, while phase two encompasses 14 roads, in addition to five interchanges and flyovers at strategic locations and new roads that will facilitate access to the State Capital.
Describing the project as one of the most ambitious urban development initiatives in the state’s history, the Commissioner emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the projects through effective monitoring and supervision.
The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Muhammed, praised Governor Bago for his unwavering determination to bring about transformation in the state and pledged the legislative arm’s continued cooperation and support for the benefit of all residents.
The Managing Director of China Civil Engineering Corporation (CCECC), Mr. David Wang, commended Governor Umaru Bago for his resolute vision to transform Niger State through extensive infrastructure development.
He pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and ensure a harmonious relationship with the local community to ensure the projects are completed in a timely and high-quality manner.
Local council chairpersons, Aminu Ladan of Chanchaga Council and Hajiya Ladidi Rakiya Bawa of Bosso Council expressed their appreciation for the Governor’s laudable infrastructure initiatives aimed at the state’s development.
The Emir of Minna, HRH Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, commended Governor Bago for his significant efforts in urban renewal and assured him of the Minna emirate’s continued support for his policies.
Upon completion of the township roads, Minna, the state capital, will see its size expanded to cover 100 square kilometres.
