Niger DPR grants Operational License to 600 fuel stations

THE Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Niger State, has said that no fewer than 600 Fuel stations have been licensed in the past two years of its establishment in the state.

The State Comptroller of DPR, Engineer Abdullahi Isah Jankara made the disclosure when the leadership of the Correspondents chapel of the state Council of NUJ paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Minna, highlighting that he sealed up a lot of illegal fuel stations across the state on his assumption of office to ensure sanity.

He stated further that some of the peculiar challenges ascertained during the period under review by the Department on November 1, 2015 had since been overcome through enlightenment programme and education of the stakeholders especially the Independent Marketers.

He thereby applauded the immense contributions of the media especially during the scarcity of petroleum products at the peak of the establishment of the DPR in the state, just as he vowed to do his best as the head of the regulatory body of Oil and Gas in the state.

Engr Jankara however vowed not to bow to the alleged intimidations by members of the state’s chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers, while maintaining that the right thing must be done to ensure sanity and smooth running of the business in the state.

He added further that products scarcity was a distraction to the department, pointing out that the DPR, is now carrying out its real mandate as a regulatory Agency in the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria.

The pioneer Comptroller of DPR in the state further disclosed that Independent marketers now registered for their licenses online now within three months which has eased the whole processes and in line with the aim of establishing the office in Minna, the state capital.

He advised the new leadership of the chapel and journalism professionals in the state to always be mindful of the consequences of their reportage in the society and be guided by their conscience and ethics of the Profession as well not to be deterred by the critics as their present status will propel them for future responsibility.

Earlier in his remarks, the state chairman of the Correspondents chapel, Mr Aideloje Ojo expressed appreciation for the tremendous contributions of the department to the seamless supply of petroleum products in the state.

He also commended the boldness and personal contributions of the state Comptroller of DRP, in carrying out his functions along sides his officials in parts of the state, while assuring him of the cooperation and support of the members of the chapel in the discharge of Jankara’s duties.
