Niger Deputy Gov hosts steering committee of Nigeria for women project

Published by

Niger State’s Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Comrade Yakubu Garba, received the state’s Steering Committee members of the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) at his office in the Government House in Minna.

The Deputy Governor is the chairman of Niger State’s Steering Committee for the project.

The NFWP’s implementation is starting in six states across the geopolitical zones: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Kebbi, Niger, Ogun, and Taraba States.

The NFWP is a strategic long-term partnership between the Federal Government of Nigeria, subnational governments, and the World Bank, aimed at supporting the government’s goal of ensuring gender equality.

It’s a flagship project of Women Affairs across the states, focusing on improving livelihoods for women in targeted communities in Nigeria.

The project is designed to scale up support for women’s groups, address barriers to women’s prosperity, and build social assets for women’s economic participation, critical for inclusive poverty reduction in Nigeria.

The goal is to achieve multiple local contexts in approaching women’s economic outcomes and the well-being of individual households and communities.

The project’s five-year national intervention aims to provide improved livelihood opportunities for 324,000 women in Nigeria.

It envisions empowering Nigerian women through economically developed, gender-sensitive, and responsive programmes to alleviate and eradicate poverty, ensuring economic opportunities for women in selected communities of the country.

This will address gender inequality, especially in the areas of livelihood support, and contribute to family outcomes like education, health, and nutrition, among others.
