Niger Delta groups hail CDS Musa for revolutionised defence framework

Rights groups from the Niger Delta have commended Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa for spearheading transformative changes in the country’s defence and security architecture.

According to them, under his leadership, significant strides have been made in combating insurgency, banditry, militancy, and oil theft. His tenure has also enhanced collaboration among the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies, leading to improved national security.

In a joint statement, the Coalition of Youth Leaders for One Nigeria (COYLON) and the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) praised General Musa for fostering synergy between the armed forces and agencies like the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Customs Service.

“General Musa’s leadership has redefined how Nigeria approaches security challenges. His commitment to fostering collaboration among security agencies has yielded remarkable results in reducing threats like insurgency and oil theft,” said Comrade Isaac Owoicho, National President of COYLON.

The groups credited Musa’s leadership with bolstering border security, curbing arms trafficking, and reducing illicit trade, resulting in a safer and more stable Nigeria.

“Under his watch, the Nigerian Armed Forces have become more disciplined, cohesive, and effective. He has not only equipped our military with modern tools but has also boosted the morale of officers through better training and improved welfare,” stated Amb. Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, President of MOSIEND.

The statement highlighted General Musa’s focus on addressing the root causes of regional agitations through dialogue and engaging with stakeholders. His efforts have enhanced civilian-military relations, fostering trust between the armed forces and local communities.

“General Musa is a transformational leader who understands that security goes beyond force,” added Owoicho. “His strategy of combining kinetic and non-kinetic measures has significantly stabilized the nation.”

While acknowledging ongoing challenges, the groups expressed optimism about the continued progress in addressing security threats. They emphasized that General Musa’s leadership has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s defence history.

“General Musa’s tenure will be remembered as a turning point for Nigeria’s security. His legacy is one of hope, professionalism, and a commitment to making Nigeria a haven for its citizens and visitors alike,” said Tonjo West.
