The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has reported a boat mishap that occurred on Tuesday evening, October 1st, 2024, at around 8:30 pm on the River Niger upstream, near Jebba Dam, in the Gbajibo Community of Mokwa Local Government Area.
The Director General of NSEMA, Hon. Abdullahi Baba Arah, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday in Minna.
He revealed that the ill-fated commercial boat was carrying nearly 300 passengers, mostly women and children, traveling from Mundi Community to Gbajibo for a Maulid celebration.

He stated “our Agency (NSEMA) is directing and monitoring search and rescue operations in collaboration with the State Ministry of Transport, Mokwa Local Government Emergency Committee, brave local divers, and other community. volunteers” .
“Thanks to the prompt response from the community volunteers, over 150 persons have been rescued alive so far.
“The search and rescue operation is still ongoing to locate more survivors, and the general public will be provided with the update”, said Baba Arah
