NIGCOMSAT workers suspend planned strike

Published by

The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) has suspended the planned strike scheduled for this week at the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT).

The workers have threatened to shut down all activities in the company if the management failed to review their terms and condition of service, this week.

But acting swiftly, the management of the organization invited the Union to an emergency meeting where vital agreement was reached for amicable resolution of the crisis.

Following the resolutions arrived at the meeting, the General Secretary of SASCGOC, Comrade Ayo Olorunfemi, announced the suspension of the action, while addressing the workers meeting held at the conference room of SSASCGOC, on Friday.

According to Comrade Olorunfemi, the leadership of the Union resolved to suspend the strike because the management has agreed to work with the Union to ensure that the issues of the workers welfare are addressed.

Specifically, the management of NIGCOMSAT has assured the union than there would be no retrenchment of workers, while there won’t be victimization of any worker.

Besides, he said the Union and the management have agreed to work together to ensure that the mandates of NIGCOMSAT, for which it was established are achieved.

Though, he stated that the management is carrying out staff auditing, Olorunfemi explained that no Union can stop any Organisation from carrying out such exercise.

But he emphasized that the management had assured that the reason behind the exercise is not to sack, and therefore, would not lead to retrenchment of workers.
