NGX ASI sheds 5bps on marginal loss

The benchmark index of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) sheds five basis points as the market marginally, on Wednesday.

Investors’ selling activities in Tier 1 stocks such as FBN Holdings, Access and GTCO triggered the decline, howbeit marginal, as their shares value lost 0.7 per cent, 1.1 per cent and 0.9 per cent respectively.

Thus, the All-Share Index settled at 39,505.40 basis points as against 39,550.36 basis points recorded at the close of trading activities on Tuesday

Consequently, Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns printed +2.6 per cent and -1.8 per cent, respectively.
Equities Investors at NGX shed N2.5 billion as the market’s worth followed to N20.604 trillion as against an opening of N20.606 trillion.

As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive, as 18 tickers gained, relative to 16 losers.
Pharmadeko and GOC Gas recorded the most significant gains of the day having appreciated in value by 10.0 per cent and 9.8 per cent respectively, while SCOA and Prestige Insurance topped the losers’ list after recording 9.7 per cent and 8.3 per cent respective decline in the value of their shares.

Analysing by sectors, the Insurance index declined by 0.9 per cent while the Consumer Goods and Banking indices recorded gains by respective 0.1 per cent. Elsewhere, the Industrial Goods and Oil & Gas indices closed flat.

The total volume of trades increased by 19.2 per cent to 132.08 million units, valued at N2.67 billion, and exchanged in 3,307 deals.

Transnational Corporations was the most traded stock by volume at 14.14 million units, while Nestle Nigeria was the most traded stock by value at N1.18 billion.
