A non-governmental organisation, Insight Development and Leadership Academy, recently held a two-day intensive leadership training tagged IDLA 3.0 to educate about 60 student leaders on administration and politics in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
Participants were selected from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State University (KWASU), Al-Ikmah University, Ilorin, Federal Polytechnic, Offa (OFFAPOLY), Kwara State Polytechnic (KWARAPOLY), among others.
The group’s programme coordinator and co-founder, head of Business Development, Dukiya investments, Mr Bayo Lawal said that the programme was organised to contribute to the growth of student and aspiring leaders with the ‘catch and teach them young’ strategy to lay the foundation of good leadership in the country.
He added, “IDLA is well known for its campaign to catalyze patriotism and was established in 2018 to build and impact student leaders who are willing to make waves into societal politics with the necessary skills of 21st-century leadership, shunning the menace of bad human oversight prevalent in Africa.”
“This programme will motivate people into becoming good entrepreneurs, managers and leaders with good intentions because they are being thought to believe that good character is the fulcrum of a developed society. Hence, the need for them to acquire it for the task ahead.”
Speaking, a leadership coach and author of ‘Emerge’, Mr Lukman Shobowale said, “A star without a scar is a scam. You must pay attention in the place of the process so as to catch glimpse of everything needed to be a better person.”
“Present yourself as a person of impact. The best way to enter people’s life is to offer to help them.”
A participant from KWASU, Kudabo Deborah said the training changed her views completely about leadership as she has learnt a lot about how one can successfully be a product of a fascinating change in one’s society.
Another participant from KWARAPOLY, Adebayo Raphael said: “I am glad I attended, I have learnt the rudiments of governance and this is a life-saving opportunity that I have not even amass in my about 3 years in the university.”
