NGO to distribute 200 computers to digitally excluded black students in UK

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Connect Talent CIO, has disclosed its plan to distribute 200 computers to digitally excluded black minority ethnic students in higher education in the United Kingdom.

Speaking with Tribune Online yesterday, The founder, Dr Oladimeji Ojerinola, said this will be done in conjunction with Salford City Council and a few organisations.

Oladimeji hinted that such a move would promote learning and social inclusion.

He said that giving impartial career information and continued-developed capabilities and skills to the students would serve as an enabler of increased equality in the talent development process and contribute to the UK economy.

The founder highlighted the organisation’s efforts at raising their aspirations and providing information, advice, and guidance through training activities.

“Over the years, we have supported a lot of students. Recently, we gave computers out, and on September 12, we will be giving 200 computers out to people who have demonstrated or shown that they cannot afford a computer.

“This is in conjunction with Salford City Council and a few organisations.

“Connect CIO promotes learning and social inclusion for the Black Minority Ethnic students of particularly Black African and Caribbean descent in higher education here in the North West of England.

“Through impartial career information, advice, and continued development of their individual capabilities, competencies, skills, and understanding in programmes of educational value, thereby bringing increased equality to the talent development process and contribution to the UK economy.

“By raising their aspirations, providing information, advice, and guidance, and building capacity through training activities.

“Connect Talent wishes to help individuals gain the necessary skills and confidence to progress within the working environment and, where necessary, get work placements or mentoring that will aid their advancement in the world of work.

“Helping an individual to achieve their career potential in leadership roles or giving them the confidence to start their own business if that is what they want,’ he said.
