NGO gives aid to pregnant women in Ibadan

What started as a dream has today not only flourished in touching lives but also extended in scope in assisting pregnant women. This was the case when Heritage Childbirth Services founded by Barr (Mrs.) Simisola Igbokoyi-Obasan recently turned 5 years, and the organization in celebrating its 5th anniversary had a line-up of incentives/activities. The organisation in its desire of giving back to the society, conducted an outreach program for pregnant women at Vine Branch Medical Centre at Mokola, Ibadan. For two days, pregnant women were given packs consisting of their maternity needs.

Speaking, the founder of the organisation, Simisola Igbokoyi-Obasan stated that “It started as an idea when I nursed a very deep desire to help pregnant women enjoy a seamless United States’ childbirth process from start to finish. Although I have indirectly helped pregnant mothers alike to make their U.S childbirth dreams a reality, the idea was eventually birthed on April 27, 2013. Since then, Heritage Childbirth Services has been assisting pregnant women to enjoy quality and comprehensive medical care in the U.S.A, by handling all the logistics involved in the U.S childbirth process from start to finish, and has served over 700 clients from its inception till date.”

As part of the event, the organisation hosted the H.C.S Cutest Baby Contest which was conducted in celebration of their adorable heritage babies. The top 3 babies with the most votes won cash rewards of N100,000, N50,000, and N25,000 respectively.

The organisation also offered a free service giveaway to pregnant couples who intend to give birth in the United States of America. Interested participants filled online applications for the free service, and two lucky winners were randomly selected to benefit from this offer.

Also the organisation also gave back to their four most outstanding clients by sending gift rewards to them across the world. Added to this, the organization equally gave electronic awards to their other esteemed clients who in one way or the other have done things worthy of recognition in the course of their agency-client relationship and beyond.

In her remarks, the hospital’s administrator, Mrs. Folasade Obaro told Nigerian Tribune of how immensely beneficial the organisation’s gesture was for their hospital.

Many of the pregnant women who were participants at the event expressed gratitude to the organisations, insisting that others with similar wherewithal should see to the welfare of expectant mothers across the country. They equally called on government at various levels to help organisations which are keen in taking care of pregnant women by providing the necessary environment which would ensure that their mission is largely achieved.

For Mrs Igbokoyi-Obasan, helping pregnant women remains a major mission for her. “It is a worthy engagement and it gives joy to my heart when I see that I am making immense in the lives of pregnant women. People usually forget that pregnant women have needs; they have goals which they also would like to meet. Many pregnant women today would want to have their babies in developed countries of the world. We try to help as much as we can.

“People generally forget that pregnancy is a not an easy period for the bearer. There are many poor women across many parts of the country that need all the assistance that they can get. We try to do the best that we can. We also call on relevant government organisations to see the need in helping us achieve our lofty dreams for these women. The government should provide an enabling environment to make this a reality for us,” she said.
