NGO empowers Eruwa, Lanlate indigenes

Determined to contribute to human capacity development of rural communities, non-governmental organisation, Mejeje Foundation, has enrolled twelve indigenes of Ibarapa East Local Government area of Oyo State for a three months computer appreciation programme.

According to Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mejeje Foundation, Olayinka Esuola, the drive behind the sponsorship is to ensure that rural dwellers are equipped with requisite Information Technology and computer skills.

Kicking off the programme at Mercy Business Center, New Motor Park, Sango, Eruwa, Esuola averred that the training would go a long way in making the beneficiaries more employable and self-employed.

Noting that the world was technology-driven, Esuola noted that the nation must emphasize the importance of skills combined with education to foster socioeconomic development.

While assuring that of support for outstanding participants at the end of the programme, Esuola stressed the need for all well-meaning Nigerians to contribute their own little quota which will spiral into big impacts on the society.

“We are keen on promoting human capital development in communities. This programme is on computer appreciation.

“12 participants from the 10 wards in Ibarapa East local government were selected for three months computer appreciation programme which will hone their skills.

“There are a lot that people can do with having computer skills and this is needed in today’s world. It will make them more employable and they can be self-employed.

“If we see people who are committed, we could help them with connections. They should first grasp the knowledge and help them with where they could fit in.

“In our country today, we do more of theory but as we speak, computer skills are needed. Organizations have moved from employing based on certificates to seeking skills.

“Every day we talk about eradicating poverty and the only way out is empowering people. Everybody should contribute, make an impact on the people. What is the impact we will have on the people? We need people with the right skills that can run the economy,” Esuola said.

The beneficiaries, held that the programme was invaluable for them to achieve their dreams in life.

While Olawoore Oludamola averred that the skills garnered will enhance her employability and bring her up to speed with development in the Information Technology, Abegunde Olamilekan said the skills must corroborate education to live a meaningful life.

Abegunde however prayed the Mejeje foundation also consider as important assisting them with capital to set up their own computer centres else the knowledge gathered from the training becomes under-utilized.

Community leaders from Eruwa and Lanlate like Mr Kasali Morakinyo and Mr J. A. Ayangoke urged the beneficiaries to be focused on the training for them to be equipped to make a headway in life.

Noting the importance of having technological skills in today’s workplace, one of the leaders, Mr Kasali Morakinyo urged the beneficiaries to see the training as a stepping stone to their successes in life, if they put in their minds at it.

‘Having technological skills have become imperative in today’s workplace. In fact, acquisition of computer skills will give one the edge in a world of many unemployed people. Their lives will be greatly impacted by the acquisition of computer skills.

God uplifts people and if they put their minds at it and are good at it, they will be sought after for businesses and will be able to establish themselves,” Kasali said.

Ayangoke, on his part, lauded the foundation for being committed to building lives, praying that the foundation will be capable to impact upon more lives.
