Star Education and Leadership Initiative (SELI) has generously donated pupil-friendly educational playground facilities aimed at developing cognitive reasoning and increasing learning abilities to two schools in the Jos North local government council of Plateau State.
The beneficiary schools are COCIN Treasure Academy Fudawa and the Redeemed of the Lord’s School on Bauchi Ring Road in Jos.
During the commissioning of the educational playgrounds at both schools, Mrs Esther Onyinyechi Mark-Nathaniel, the founder of SELI, emphasised that play is a vital means through which children learn and develop easily.
“If we are to have well-balanced adults in the future, they need to be well-balanced children now. Constructive play is one of the ways to achieve that.
The educational playgrounds ensure that children have ample reason to be in school and remain engaged in their learning.”
“It has always been our dream to provide access to quality education for children within and outside schools across the nation and beyond, and one notable way of achieving this is through educational playgrounds.”
Esther highlighted that playing helps children to think and learn creatively, aiding in the regulation of their emotions.
She further stressed that intentionally establishing educational playgrounds in schools is a definite way of enhancing education in underserved communities while ensuring that children have ample reason to attend school.
“Play is not just about fun; it also helps relieve anxiety. It teaches children the social skills of negotiation and cooperation.
Through play, they develop problem-solving skills as they understand the relationship between cause and effect in the world around them. These are skills that will help them navigate life in the future.”
She further explained that play also aids in the development of cognitive abilities such as language, reasoning, and creative skills.
During the commissioning of the playground at The Redeemed of the Lord’s School, Jos, Prof. H.D. Danfulani of the University of Jos expressed gratitude to the NGO for positively impacting education in Jos, Plateau State.
Mrs. Joyce Dapiyen, the Head Teacher of COCIN Treasure Academy in Fudawa, expressed the pupils’ gratitude to the NGO.
She extended thanks to the NGO, emphasising that the facilities on the playground would greatly aid in the children’s development.
“We are pleased with this donation; as you can see, the facilities on the playground will significantly aid the children’s development. We are grateful to SELI,” she added.
