A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Association of Civil Society on Malaria Immunization and Nutrition in Nigeria, on Tuesday, called on Kaduna State Government to provide additional five million insecticidal nets for effective control of malaria in the state.

The Chairman, Mr Obadia Haruna, made the appeal at a press briefing in Kaduna.

Obadia said that the NGO was following up on the ongoing distribution of 5.2 million nets to residents of the state donated by Global Fund.

“We appreciate government effort, but they need to do more and provide an additional five million mosquito nets so that the state will be completely malaria-free.

“Since Global Fund has given 5.2 million nets and people are still complaining, we are calling on the state government to please cushion the effect and add another five million nets to the state.

“The campaign is that people should have a net and sleep under the net so as to be malaria-free, so our call is to the state and local governments to ensure malaria-free state,“ he said.

Obadia said the NGO had been creating awareness on the malaria campaign in five local government areas of the state.

“We are also working on accountability and advocacy so as to ensure that all malaria issues are properly addressed.

“Our aim is to ensure that all children are immunized, nutritionally fed and children are malaria-free.

“What we are also trying to do is to ensure that people are held accountable, we want malaria to be completely eliminated in the country,” he added.
