The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Nigerian forest guards in order to complement the efforts of security personnel in curbing criminality in the nation’s forests.
The Commandant General of NFSS, Joshua Osatimehin, and the DCG Intelligence NFSS, Dr John Metchie, amongst others, stated this at a press conference at their headquarters in Abuja.
They explained that with over 48,000 personnel spread across every state of the country and its existing structures in each state, the NFSS is well-positioned and capable of carrying out its mandate, noting that this move will go a long way in securing the nation’s vast forests.
“We are very committed to securing the nation’s forests and we will not relent in our efforts to ensure we complement other security agencies in achieving this objective,” CG Osatimehin said.
Meanwhile, the DCG Intelligence, Dr John Metchie, has called on the President to do the needful in signing the bill seeking to establish the NFSS.
Since the decision to establish the forest guards has become a reality, establishing other outfits will complement the efforts of the Federal Government to secure our forests.
