New Year’s Eve: Pastor, couple, two others die in Bayelsa boat mishap

Ogbeinbiri Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was thrown into mourning in the early hours of Friday, New Year Eve, when a speed boat transporting a woman that was beaten to a pulp by her husband to hospital collided with another boat, killing a 39-year-old Pastor and five others.

The deceased Pastor was identified as the General Overseer of the Supernatural Church of God located in the community, while three other victims of the accident were identified as relatives and in-laws of the Pastor.

It was learnt that the speed boat collided with another boat at about 1:30 am Friday morning.

A community source told Nigerian Tribune that as the dawn, divers searching for survivors have been able to rescue only one person.

Among those missing and believed to be dead are; Augustine kieribo, Felix Azazi, Stephen Moses also known as kekere, Adibo kekere’s mother, Tou kekere’s wife and Pastor Salvation Degema.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that the boat conveying the deceased was suspected to have been involved in a head-on collision with another while conveying a sick middle-aged lady to Yenagoa for emergency treatment.

The sick lady, according to a community source, was admitted at the Cottage Hospital in Ogbienbiri but that the hospital lacked oxygen which was needed to bring the lady out of coma.

“it was recommended that she be taken to Federal Medical Center in Yenagoa for Oxygen. That was where they were heading before the accident happened.”

“The Pastor was going with them as he was engaged in serious prayers for the sick lady and the relatives.”
