New Teachers Institute ready for academic activities ― Ayade

Published by

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, on Monday, disclosed that the state’s new Teachers Institute is ready for academic activities.

The institute is expected to introduce a paradigm shift in the quality of teachers and teaching in Nigeria, given the quality of the facilities in the academy.

Situated in the Biase Local Government Area of the state, the magnificent institute which construction began in June 2019 also houses a demonstration secondary school.

Governor Ayade, who was on an inspection tour of the institute, described it as the first of its kind in Africa.

According to him, “The academic session is starting by November ending and the Director-General, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, has assured me that the Institute is ready for commissioning.

“The Teachers-students and the secondary school students are all resuming about the same time. The secondary school is a demonstration school for the teachers-students to be used for practical training.

“This is the first of its kind. As of today, this institute is the only one in Africa with refresher courses to train teachers and retrain them in their professional areas of competence,” Ayade enthused.

Welcoming the governor to the institute, Professor Adedoja commended him for building and equipping the school with world-class facilities.

According to him, “I can tell you with all my exposure to various countries of the world that this facility provides an opportunity for teachers to retrain themselves in a conducive environment that is created by the Government of Cross River State under Governor Ben Ayade for the benefit of Nigerians and West Africa sub-region.”

Professor Adedoja further maintained that “our vision is to retrain teachers that will be modern in their pedagogy in school and we are very set with our demonstration school that will serve as a demonstration laboratory for teachers that will be trained in many subjects here with the state of the art facilities. This will provide opportunities for them to key into the modem teaching in line with the international best practices.”

The DG emphasised the importance of continuous training saying various professions all over the world subject themselves to learning, capacity building and teachers are no exceptions.
