New Minimum Wage: Presidency transmits Bill to NASS‎ ‎

The Presidency has at last transmitted the Minimum Wage Bill to the National Assembly for immediate legislative action.

A reliable source at the National Assembly told the Nigerian Tribune last night that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang and his counterpart in the House of Representatives had already delivered the Communication to the leadership of the two Chambers.

The National Council of State had met in Abuja on Tuesday and approved N30, 000 and 27,000 respectively for Federal and State government workers respectively as the new minimum wage in the Country.

Shortly after the meeting, ‎the Labour and Productivity Minister, Dr Chris Ngige told newsmen that an Executive Bill to that effect would be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislation.

However, the proposal was immediately rejected by the Nigeria Labour Congress. NLC, which described it as unacceptable and insisted on the N30, 000 earlier agreed upon with the Federal government.

Though the Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon Abdulrasak Namdas could not be immediately reached for comment on the development, a source close to the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly told the Nigerian Tribune in confidence that the official communication ‎to that effect has been received from the Presidency.
