New executives for Commonwealth scholarships alumni body in Nigeria sworn-in

The Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria (CoSFAN), on Tuesday, 11 December, in Abuja, inaugurated its new Executive Committee, as it also held its Annual General Meeting and End-of-Year Workshop.

New officers sworn-in by Chief (Mrs) Victoria Olufunmilayo Awomola, SAN were: Dr Abiola Ruth Adimula, president; Dr Ojochide Cyril Akagwu, vice president; Mr Chidi Ezegwu(general secretary); Mr Taiwo Obe (publicity secretary), Mr Aminu Ado (treasurer/financial secretary) and Pastor Samuel Olusola Oyegunle(North-Central regional coordinator).

Adimula, a lawyer and lecturer at the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, was previously the association’s secretary-general while Ado, a chartered accountant with a petrochemicals company in Lagos, retained his position.

At least 2,000 Nigerians have, since 1959, benefitted from the scholarships and fellowships awarded by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission, UK. Formally registered in 2012, as a non-profit organisation, CoSFAN’s core objective is “to promote and advance education and the welfare of Nigerians, especially through award of scholarships.” It is supported by the British Council.

The new executives are expected to serve for two years, renewable for another two years.
