New airport manager pledges to tackle decay at Lagos airport

Published by

The new airport Regional General Manager for Southwest, Mr Felix Akinbinu, has said he will strive to ensure that all forms of infrastructural decay at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport is addressed within the shortest possible time in order to give air travellers seamless travel.

Akinbinu who spoke with some aviation journalists at the airport, also pledged that the faulty cooling system and the poor status of toilets at the airport will be given urgent attention.

The airport manager said that a technical team charged with on-the-spot assessment of facilities is already identifying areas to be given attention even as he promised that all the shortcomings and inadequacies would be urgently tackled.

“Without being told, there are some visible challenges in the airport. We are capable of tackling them. We are taking assessments and we will address them as soon as possible and at the moment if such is being done, there is no way we would compare how the terminal looks like and the current shape,” Akinbinu said.

He however warned touts and those without business at the airport to steer clear as anyone caught will be prosecuted. He also enjoined travellers to reduce the number of relatives that follow them to the airport.

Decrying illegal parking on the adjoining roads leading to the terminal building, he stated, “Illegal parking is a major challenge. The airport is becoming too small compared to the volume of operations, but nevertheless we are addressing that and in the course of our expansion we will get to that axis.”

On the poor state of the alternate road between the training school and the international axis of the airport terminal, Akinbinu said contract for its rehabilitation had been approved and awarded.
