NEPZA mulls exclusive women cluster ― MD

Managing Director, Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA), Prof Adesoji Adesugba has challenged the Nigeria Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industries Mines and Agriculture Women Group (NAWORG) to evolve a platform that would facilitate their operations in the Authority.

He said this was important and urgent, so that the women can bring to bear their industrious disposition in the export processing zone.

Adesugba who said this at the women round table in Abuja said the idea, would be to have an exclusive area for women’s operations in the export processing zone, tagged Amazonia.

According to him, the platform would allow the women to showcase their ability to transform the market and the nation’s economy, as have been evident in their management of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and other businesses where women dominate.

Adesugba urged the women, “who have their businesses, which are focused for lift productivity, and let us see the magic wand which we know has been used before, we can see it in that cluster. We can see it happen.

“I have even given it a Name Amazonian, land a cluster of the Amazons. It is something serious that we can think of right now where we are, where we can plant either in Abuja or any location that we can think of, we can start a pilot project.

“We can work with the Abuja chamber of commerce, which is the women. Where they have put in a lot of initiatives.

“Let us have our own Amazonia, where women can have their businesses and we can concentrate on it and have small President of Amazonia. It is something we can showcase to the world.

The Chairman, NAWORG, and Former Minister of State Trade, Industry and Investment, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, commended the gesture and assured women participation in the project.

She said it will accentuate the President Order which demands MDA to patronize Nigeria first, before alternative options on any product and services.

Director-General of Abuja Chamber of Commerce (ACCI), Ms Victoria Akai, who welcomed the idea said the first priority of the woman is her house, “immediately we collect the money, we do bring in the money home. We empower our children, go to our shops, it is our kids who are selling there, you can hardly go to a man’s business and see his children there.

This practice she noted would make the women focus on national priority and advance national economic development.
