NEPA passes vote of confidence on Dogara, supports his 2019 reelection bid

Speaker of the House, Hon Yakubu Dogara

A political pressure group, the North East Peoples Assembly (NEPA), has passed a ‘vote of confidence’ on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, dismissing the allegations that he does not have the interest of the people of
Bauchi State at heart.

The group in a press statement signed by John Akevi and Mohammed Nura Doya, President and Secretary respectively described the allegations against Yakubu Dogara as “absolute hogwash,” stating that Yakubu Dogara is a man of integrity whose loyalty and interest to the people of Bauchi state and indeed the North-East is not in doubt.

The group while reacting to a radio programme aired in the state recently, stated that: “The stage-managed drama is therefore baseless, unfounded and merely concocted to malign Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, mutilate his hard earned
integrity, subject him to ridicule and portray him in a bad light before the good people of Bauchi State, Nigerians and the international community.”

The group which is a collation of 102 interest groups, further stated that it took “an empirical look” at the issues raised by an “obviously orchestrated plot” to diminish the stature of Dogara before millions of Nigerians who love him, adding that the allegation does not have the interest of Bauchi State at heart but “falsehood simply created to de-market demean, Mr. Speaker.”

NEPA, according to the release disclosed that it is a grass-root oriented group and therefore commended Yakubu Dogara for the provision of infrastructures and other amenities of modern life across the state, describing his stewardship of the lower chamber as outstanding.

“The Lower House under the leadership of Yakubu Dogara has witnessed unity of purpose and harmonious relationship among different representatives that lead to the passing of over 1064 bills while 126 bills were passed into law including over 600 motions,” it stated.

The group also claimed that “In over three years, the speaker of the house has engendered a peaceful co-existence relationship between the Executive and the Legislative. The Speaker has sponsored eight bills, notably among them is the passage of the North East Development Commission bill. We believe that the trust that the administration of President Buhari and Yakubu Dogara and we are confident that the nation is in good hands and surely, we know they would take Nigeria to the Promised Land.”

The statement then reminded the sponsors of the spurious radio programme that the essence of democracy is to ventilate your views within the ambit of the law, warning that, “the North East People’s Assembly would not hesitate to approach a court of competent jurisdiction to seek redress on those who persistently prefer to peddle baseless and unfounded
stories with the ultimate to disrepute the hard-earned reputation of Yakubu Dogara.”

It, therefore, passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker and “endorsed him for the 2019 general election, for repositioning the state, the nation and steering the affairs of the lower chamber within global best practice.
