One of the most potent ways to build any economy is to make the power sector work. Many developed nations know this and it is obvious that they have repeatedly ensured that they do not joke with that sector. Constant electricity supply remains an important asset that guarantees economic growth in any clime. Every industrialised economy knows that this and has therefore continued to sustain it. Unfortunately this is not the case with Nigeria.
The current reality goes against common sense; we are daily plagued by a backwardness that not only dehumanise us but demonstrate that we are an unserious nation.
It is really sad that in this dispensation, Nigeria still struggles with supplying uninterrupted power supply too its vast population. Our industries have collapsed; we run an economy that is daily collapsing and clearly there is nothing in sight to show that there is reprieve on the way.
Again, our political elite has continued to ensure that the power structure continues in its downward drive. Our hospitals are powered by generators. Our laboratories are in darkness. Our industries are powered by very expensive generating sets. This has continued to have its spiral effects on us. This is very sad.
Yet, every budget year, so much is put into that sector. We have nothing tangible to show for it. The level of corruption in that sector is mind-boggling. Must we be told that we cannot make economic progress if our power sector does not work? We must do the needful.
