We need good leaders

THE national political scenario is troubling. Our political leaders wallow in financial and economic constipation and self-adulation.

The question is, have Nigerians’ lives been made better? How has the leadership been managing the difference in projected and actual incomes each year?

No wonder then that in these convoluted times, many of our youths are involved in crime. It is no wonder that our students are indulging more and more in cultism and perfecting the language of the underworld.

Despite all the tools and resources available to our society, evidence abounds that whatever leadership we have in place at the critical national level and at other levels is often self-serving and opportunistic.

The desired change will come about when civil society identifies and rejects the political parasites who are isolated and alienated from the social circumstances of the people.

If the constitution is reviewed, the immunity clause given to public office-holders in civil and criminal proceedings should be abolished.

By so doing, there will be monitoring and checks on the powers of our political leaders. If all this is done,  the tides of this country will turn for better.

Current leaders and aspirants to leadership will do well to read the signs of the times and heed the admonition for change in leadership style and dream.
