NEDC commended for prompt response to flood disaster in subregion

The Board and Management of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) have been commended for their prompt response to the devastating flooding that recently ravaged communities in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The commendation was made by the President of the North East Youth Discussion Circle, Prince Mohammed Sani, alongside his Executive Council members from the six states of North-Eastern Nigeria at a press briefing held in Bauchi on Thursday, 10 October 2024.

He stressed that by swiftly coming to the rescue of the victims of the disaster by providing relief items, the Commission has demonstrated that it is indeed an agency of hope for the people of the subregion.

He further appreciated the efforts of the NEDC under the leadership of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed G. Alkali, for their commitment and dedication towards revamping the devastated North East subregion.

According to him, the floods that swept across Maiduguri, Borno State, and other areas in the subregion have rendered millions of people homeless, as they lost farmlands and other valuable properties.

Sani Mohammed stressed that “The Commission, under the leadership of Goni Alkali, has shown exemplary leadership in humanitarian services to the people, and we are very pleased with the assistance the Commission is providing to the youth and the less privileged in society.”

He added, “Mohammed G. Alkali is indeed a leader and a mentor. On behalf of the entire North East youth, we say thank you to the Commission.”

He called on all youths of the North East subregion to support the Commission and to be good ambassadors of the Commission wherever they find themselves.

He also stated that the Commission has excelled in areas such as youth employment, promotion of agriculture, quality healthcare delivery services, education, and the general development of the subregion.

The Youth President concluded by emphasising that the Commission has shown commitment to improving the quality of life for millions of people across the six states of the North-East subregion and deserves high commendation.

He reiterated that “The North East Youth Discussion Circle, under my leadership, will continue to be partners in the progress and success of the North East Development Commission.”
