NECO to honour best BECE student Dec 9

Onochie Chimamanda Frances of Igbinedion Educational Centre in Benin City, Edo has been declared by the National Examinations Council (NECO), as its overall best female candidate in the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Consequently, the native of Anambra Chimamanda has been invited by the Registrar of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, for an award billed to take place December 9, 2023, at the Justice Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre, Minna Niger State.

Presenting the award invitation letter to Management of the school on Monday in Benin on behalf of the Registrar of NECO, Prof. Wushishi, the Edo State NECO Coordinator, Dr Moses Oladipupo, congratulated the student for her excellent performance during the examination.

The letter, captioned “Invitation to receive an award for emerging as the best female candidate National, 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)”, signed by Suleiman Adegoke, Chairman, Staff Productivity Award Committee, NECO read in part:

“I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones in good health I write on behalf of the Registrar/Chief Executive National Examinations Council (NECO) to give you a formal invitation to receive an Award of Excellence for emerging as the overall best female candidate National in the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)

“We shall be pleased to have your presence at this annual event. Kindly accept our humble invitation to grace the ceremony with your physical presence. Congratulations”.

He charged the student not to relent in her success, adding that the reward for success is more work, just as he commended management of the school and the awardee’s parents for preparing her adequately for the examination.

Earlier in her short address, the Deputy Chairman and Co-founder of the Igbinedion Educational Centre (I.E.C), Lady Cherry Igbinedion, congratulated Chimamanda for her success in the examination.

She stated that one of her dreams 40 years ago when she was planning the foundation of the school with her husband, Sir, Dr. Gabriel Igbinedion, was to produce through the school students with exceptional students beyond the classroom.

“Forty years ago, when I thinking the foundation of this school (I.E.C) with my husband, this is the type of glory I envisaged in mind, students who will go beyond the classroom intellectually”, she disclosed.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the short ceremony, the intending awardee, Chimamanda, thanked her parents and the school management for the school for their support towards her.

She promised to bring more glory to school and her parents, just as she wished to be a Surgeon in the future.

The little Onochie Chimamanda Frances, who was described as exceptionally brilliant student by the school management scored 11 A’s in the examination.

She scored A’s in English Language, Mathematics, French Language, Christian Religious Studies, Business Studies, Igbo Language, Cultural and Creative Arts, Basic Science and Technology, Pre-Vocational Studies, National Values Education and History.
