The National Examinations Council (NECO) has sought further collaboration with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to check examination misconduct during the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) of the council.

Chairman of the Governing board of NECO, Dr Abubakar Saddiq, who led the acting registrar and other management team on a courtesy visit to the commandant-general of NSCDC in Abuja on Wednesday, said such collaboration would go a long way in ensuring the credibility of the examination.

Dr Saddiq noted that the council had enjoyed a long time relationship with NSCDC and wished to strengthen the relationship, saying that “the council has put in place measures aimed at checking examination malpractice,” and enjoined personnel of NSCDC to brace up for new challenges that may emerge during the conduct of the examination.

According to him, among such measures introduced is the biometric capturing of candidates to check impersonation at examination centres.

Dr Saddiq therefore enjoined personnel of NSCDC to re-double their efforts in collaboration with the council to prevent any form of examination malpractices through adequate security in and around examination centres.

The acting registrar/chief executive, Mr Abubakar Mohammed Gana, in his remarks, went down the memory lane on how the relationship between NSCDC and NECO was consummated in 2008.

Gana said “the council has been enjoying the services of your organisation without any hindrance from 2008 to date, and we want the collaboration to be strengthened to ensure security in all our examination centres across the country.”

Meanwhile, the commandant-general, Mr Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, in his address, pledged the continued support of his agency in  provision of adequate security at examination centres to ensure the credibility of NECO results.

Muhammadu who stressed the need for stakeholders to make sacrifice to ensure the realisation of the council’s noble mandate, added that “we will take NECO assignment as one of our critical mandate.”

He commended NECO for conducting credible examinations  across the country over the years and gave assurance that his personnel would ensure  an atmosphere of peace in and around all examination centres across the country.
