NEC meeting: PDP chieftain drags party to Court

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the party’s governors’ forum chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, has dragged the party to court ahead of the scheduled October 24 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting

A suit filed by Imam Awal believed to be acting on behalf of the Bala Mohammed group has filed a motion before a Federal High Court, Gusau, Zamfara State seeking to nullify all actions taken by the Acting Chairman, Iliya Damagum.

The PDP member has approached a Federal High Court in Gusau under Justice Salim Ibrahim to help facilitate an ex-parte order.

Court documents sighted by this medium show that the request was made at 8.30am on 22nd October 2024 (today) and filed by one Imam Auwal seeking a special order to ensure the NEC meeting holds to pave way for the PDP govs forum group to have Damagum removed from office.

The plaintiff, in the court papers obtained by Tribune Online, asked the Court to determine whether the NEC is in contradiction of the party’s constitution by not appointing a substantive National Chairman from the North-Central zone after the removal of the Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who is from the zone.

Also, Imam Awal wants the court to determine “WHETHER the actions of the acting National Chairman by frustrating all efforts to appoint a substantive National Chairman is not unlawful, unconstitutional and an abuse of office,” and “WHETHER the suspension of the National Vice Chairman (South East Zone) of the 1st Defendant, pursuant to section 57 (3) of the Peoples Democratic Party Constitution, 2017 (As amended) has not terminated his membership of the party and all its organs, including the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee and the National Convention of the 1st Defendant.?”
