THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara State said it has uncovered a warehouse in Ilorin metropolis where 4.336 tons of cannabis sativa were allegedly stored.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the state commander of the drug enforcement agency, Reuben Apeh, said the warehouse was uncovered in Osere area along Asa Dam road in the metropolis.
The NDLEA boss, who said that the warehouse was stocked with 396 bags of cannabis sativa (hemp) weighing 4.336 tons, however, added that no arrest was made.
“We are still doing the best we could to ensure that the culprits do not go out of hands, we are still trailing them,” he said.
He said the command’s operatives made the seizure on January 9, 2017 after about two weeks of acting on tip off from members of the public.
“The seizure was a great relief to humanity considering the effects the use of such drugs could have on the socioeconomic development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
“Cannabis savita is a very highly controlled drug not only in Nigeria, its effects is synonymous with cocaine,” he said.
He urged journalists to always educate the public particularly the youths about the negative effects of the use of such drugs on the family, the society, state and country as a whole.
