NDLEA testifies against alleged drug baron, Temo over seizure of 704kg marijuana

Published by

A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operative, Superintendent Hussaini Gusau has testified about the seizure of marijuana linked to alleged drug baron, Jimoh Suleiman, also known as ‘Temo’ at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Gusau described how he and his team made an arrest in 2020 involving 704 kilograms of cannabis sativa.

Gusau told the court that he received information about people offloading goods from a boat into a truck.

He and his team went to the scene and managed to arrest six suspects after blocking their exit noting that the suspects had finished loading and were about to leave when they were apprehended.

The truck driver, Udoka Felix, claimed that one of the suspects had chartered the vehicle and pointed to another suspect as the owner of the cargo.

When the truck was opened, it was found to be loaded with dry weed suspected to be marijuana.

During cross-examination, Gusau confirmed that Temo was not present during the arrest and had never met the defendant before the trial.

Another prosecution witness, Mrs. Patricia Afolabi, a forensic analyst with the NDLEA, testified that a sample of the seized dry weed tested positive for marijuana.

The court adjourned the case until Friday, October 4, 2024, for the continuation of the trial.

Temo, also known as Olowoidigede and Godfather, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges, which included being a member of a drug trafficking organization, importing, processing, trafficking, and dealing in 704 kilograms of cannabis sativa (Ghana Loud), as well as concealing illicit funds.
