NDLEA nabs suspected illicit drug traffickers in Anambra

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a fifty-five-year-old suspected illicit drug trafficker who has been on trail of the Enforcement Agency since 2014.

The suspect, Mr Charles Ajaoku, who was accused of pushing different forms of drugs and harbouring criminals was arrested by the Anambra State Command of the Agency at his hometown, Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Agency, Mr Ajaoku who is popularly called Mmonwu has been evading arrest through the help of his gang and has remained a thorn in the flesh of members of his community.

Others arrested include fifty-year-old Paul Ejiofor who was caught in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government with one-point-four kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, also known as Igbo, twenty eight year old Isaac John arrested at Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area with Six hundred grammes of Cannabis sativa and twenty-year-old Musa Mohammed, who was also arrested in Amansea in Awka North Local Government Area with eighty grammes of Cannabis sativa.

Mr Ajaoku accepted he peddled drugs, but denied being a drug lord, while blaming frustration as his reason for trafficking illicit drugs.

Another sixteen-year-old girl Amaka Okafor was also arrested at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area with different quantities of methamphetamine, popularly called “Mkpuru mmiri”, hidden in her body while her sister, Chisom was arrested for aiding the crime.

Amaka denied engaging in the business but named her elder cousin, Ada Anazodo as the person who gave her the drugs to hide but escaped through the convenience when she heard the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency came for her arrest.

While speaking to newsmen, the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Sule Momodu, said the agency under his watch will not make the state inhabitable for all forms and levels of drug peddlers.
