…arrests bandits’ suppliers with drugs in private part
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a shipment of cocaine concealed in 20 sets of religious books bound for Saudi Arabia.
The consignment, consisting of 20 parcels with a total weight of 500 grams, was hidden within the pages of the books and uncovered at a courier company in Lagos on April 15, 2025. NDLEA officers from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) discovered the drugs while searching export cargo destined for Saudi Arabia at the logistics firm.
At another courier company the same day, NDLEA officers intercepted five parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 2.8 kilograms. The drugs were hidden in a carton originating from the United States of America.
In Kano, a statement issued by NDLEA spokesman Mr. Femi Babafemi on Sunday said that a 22-year-old supplier of illicit substances to bandits, Muhammad Mohammed, was arrested by NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bichi-Kano Road. He was en route to Katsina with 277 ampoules of pentazocine injection taped to his thigh and private parts with Sellotape. He was intercepted on Sunday, April 13. On the same day, another suspect, Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdulaziz, was arrested in the Research Rimin Kebe area of Nasarawa, Kano, with 68 blocks of skunk, a cannabis strain, weighing 30 kg.
Not less than 557.2 kg of skunk, 5.6 kg of methamphetamine, and 29.8 grams of heroin were recovered from a house along Major General Isaiah Allison Street, Opolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Four suspects were arrested when NDLEA operatives raided the premises on April 16.
The suspects arrested during the raid include Sarimiye Suwa Kurtis, Roland Prosper, Sarimiye Tare Paul, and Fidelis Ugbesla.
In Lagos, a total of 1,100 kilograms of skunk was recovered from a delivery van, and the driver, Ismail Abdullahi, was arrested in the Surulere area on April 17. Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Kaduna on Friday raided the hideout of a suspect, Ike Ani, in Zaria, recovering no fewer than 31,950 pills of Tramadol 225mg and Diazepam.
In Kebbi, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bagudo Road on Friday intercepted a vehicle loaded with bags of charcoal coming from Malabil, Benin Republic. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 97 kg of skunk concealed in the charcoal sacks. Three suspects — Abubakar Ibrahim, Mustapha Aliyu, and Bashar Lawali — were arrested in connection with the seizure.
A 48-year-old man, Okafor Marcel, was also arrested with 11.5 kg of skunk at Abatete, Anambra State. In Osogbo, Osun State, on April 15, NDLEA operatives arrested Ajala Mercy and recovered 43 litres of skushi — a mixture of blackcurrant, cannabis, and opioids — from her room at Dada Estate, Halleluyah area of the state capital.
Two cannabis farms in Egbeta Forest, Ovia North-East LGA, Edo State, were raided by NDLEA operatives, who destroyed 3,717.8625 kg of the psychoactive plant cultivated on 1.487145 hectares and recovered 136.5 kg of processed cannabis.
At the Tincan Seaport in Lagos, a suspect, Basorun Usman Kayode — who had been on the run for two years — was arrested in connection with the 2023 seizure of 107 kg of Loud imported from Canada. Another suspect, Dauda Yakubu, who distributes illicit drugs within the seaport community, was also arrested by a team of operatives on April 14.
Commending the officers and men of DOGI, as well as those in Kano, Lagos, Kaduna, Kebbi, Osun, Zone 13, Edo, and Tincan Commands, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (Rtd), praised their efforts. He also acknowledged the dedication of officers in all NDLEA commands nationwide in maintaining a balanced approach to both drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
