THE Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Muhammed Sokoto, on Wednesday disclosed that the command has destroyed over 24 tonnes of cannabis farm within the state in the last two months.
Sokoto who stated this in Akure, Ondo State capital, during a press conference also said 3278kilogramme of cannabis concealed in 298 bags were intercepted by his men at Owo-Ogbese road during a patrol.
Speaking on the arrest, Sokoto explained that the cannabis was concealed in a Mercedez Benz truck with registration number MUS 207 XA while the driver of the vehicle, Usman Bello, was arrested.
The NDLEA boss said the command was able to achieve the feat due to intelligence reports and advised members of the public to continue giving reports that could lead to arrest of suspects.
Sokoto said “In the recent past we have destroyed a lot of cannabis farm, about 24,000 Kilogramme of cannabis farm have been destroyed in the last two months.
“3278 kilogramme of the cannabis neatly concealed in 298 bags was detected by the men of the command while the suspect was arrested and it was discovered that the truck was specifically designed to transport the illegal drug.”
The suspect, Bello, while speaking to journalist said he was only helping his sick friend to deliver the vehicle and denied knowledge of the goods in the truck.
