DIRECTOR-GENERAL, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, has said the NDE has become a household name in Nigeria through the implementation of various schemes and programmes with a view to providing jobs for unemployed persons in the country.
Mallam Fikpo said this through the Ondo State Coordinator of the NDE, O.M. Adelodun, during the flag-off and orientation of souvenir making training scheme for women in Akure, Ondo State.
He noted that the NDE is gender sensitive and has a special branch designated for women-related programmes and activities.
“Therefore, we are gathered here today to train women and to impart skills on how to make bags, purse and all kinds of souvenir that could be presented as gifts or for household use.
“It is the aim of the Federal Government to ensure that its youths and women are gainfully employed after the training so as to mop the unemployed out of the street to become self-reliant.
“I urge you to see yourself as being lucky to have been selected as one of the trainees today because this is a rare opportunity. Capable and seasoned trainer has been employed to take you through the nitty-gritty of souvenir making so as to expose you to latest ideas of souvenir making in Nigeria,” he said
He urged the trainees to take the training seriously, be punctual, regular and most importantly, be attentive to the trainer.
