AS part of its efforts to drive job creation in Nigeria, the Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Dr. Nasiru Mohammed Ladan Argungu has expressed his willingness to forge a robust collaboration with the Nigeria Prison Service in the area of Skills acquisition training.

The DG made the declaration when he led members of the NDE Executive Management on a courtesy visit to the Controller General of the Nigeria Prison Service, Alh. Jafaru Ahmed, at the corporate headquarters of  the service in Abuja.

In his remarks, Dr. Ladan informed the controller General that NDE has structures, facilities and human resources in all the 36 states and FCT to undertake trainings relevant to the immediate and future needs of the inmates especially now that the service has accorded rehabilitation and reformation of the inmates a great priority.

He further stated that the Directorate’s training programmes and schemes are designed for both the educated and uneducated.

The DG hinted that in less than two years of his stewardship, the NDE has trained 76,400 unemployed  women and youth in various income generating activities predominantly in cosmetology and other allied trades and skills of high demand.

While making his remarks, the Controller General, Alh. Jafaru Ahmed, stated that the Nigeria prison Service has 244 formations and 75,000 inmates with 60% of them on waiting trial status.

As a result of this, Jafaru Ahmed said activities of the NDE, are highly relevant; adding that collaboration and synergy between the two agencies will provide the Prison inmates the opportunity to discover their self-worth and also restore their dignity.
