NDE DG bags Civil Society Network award

Published by

Coalition of Civil Society Network in Nigeria bestowed a two-in-one award of Outstanding Diligence in Service and Icon of Transparency and Accountability awards on the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Nuhu-Fikpo.

The delegation of the coalition said the DG was found worthy of the award after careful examination of his dedication to duty and impact of his decisions as the man in-charge of a critical agency of the Federal Government.

The coalition further harped on the importance of job creation especially as unemployment crisis worsens in Nigeria. However, it eulogised the NDE for its tenacity and result-oriented job creation programmes which are providing means of livelihood to millions and communities across the federation.

Speaking at the award presentation event, the CCSN’s Public Relations Officer, Ambassador Adamu Adamu, said, “The information communicated from our organisation to you was borne out of our passion as youths and watchdogs of the society, who are doing their best to ensure that public officers are being held accountable to the responsibilities attached to the institutions they represent.

“The Coalition of Civil Society Network in Nigeria has identified you as one of the people doing so much work to ensure that unemployment is tamed in our country. We believe that you have positioned yourself as part of the solution to unemployment in Nigerian instead of lamentation. You have committed yourself and your energy and that of your organisation in ensuring that the question of inequality is being addressed in Nigeria because NDE job provision empowerment programmes ensure equal representation of both male and female.

“On the issue of poverty, you have been doing a lot to ensure that youths are equipped with skills to become productive members of the society, helping their families and contributing to the revenue of government.

“What you are doing here goes a long way in reducing poverty across the country. So, we see you as an icon of development and better living condition.”

The National Coordinator of CCSN, Ambassador Zakari Hashim, who presented the award said, “This award is meant to encourage you to do more; to continue serving humanity because this place is where you serve humanity and make impact. Even after you exit from this office, what you did will continue to count for the people you provided with means of livelihood either as individuals or communities. We decorate you as an icon of transparency and accountability.”

In his response, the NDE DG, said, “I understand that your assessment came as a result of your independent judgement unknown to us. We never knew there was an organisation called the Coalition of Civil Society Network. You x-rayed us and probably x-rayed other organisations and came out with result that will encourage us to do more.

“Similar to what you have just done is what the Bureau for Public Service Reforms did. They came, deployed a technique here, assessed us and scored us as you have done.”

While he appreciated the coalition for the award, Mallam Fikpo went on to encourage them to continue doing their best to contributing to the well being of Nigeria and it citizens and help spread news about NDE across the country.

He added that NDE is doing everything possible to see that unemployed Nigerians are engaged to be productive members of the society.

“The NDE focuses on unemployed Nigerians. Not students, not the people working but anybody that is not employed, be it those who have not schooled at all, school leavers, drop outs, graduates of tertiary institutions and so on. So you can see that the task for NDE is enormous and our target is also very wide. So, civil society organisations can contribute their own quota by spreading the activities of NDE at all levels.”
