The Director General of National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Mrs Dayo Keshi, has said the agency is currently working to turn national festivals into major revenue earner for the country.
Speaking on the annual National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) which is ongoing at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Keshi, said the festival would be used to brainstorm on how to make indigenous cultures and heritages have multiplier effect on income generation at the grassroots.
She stated that the council was already working in line with Federal Government’s initiative of raising revenue through non-oil sources.
Also speaking, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed that the government was collaborating with local and international partners to enhance the capacity of festival managers through training as part of the deliberate effort to turn festivals into revenue earners.
According to him, festivals around the world were already moving from just being a forum to showcase arts and culture to becoming a tool for economic growth.
