In a touching display of community solidarity, the participants of Naval Warfare Course 8 made a significant donation to the Cross River State Children’s Home, an orphanage.
During the handover of the donation, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, Commandant of the Naval War College Nigeria, emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable members of society, particularly children who have lost the care and protection of their parents.
Rear Admiral Ahmed stated that the donation reflected the participants’ commitment to giving back to society, especially to underprivileged children in orphanages. He reiterated the college’s profound obligation to engage in charitable activities aimed at uplifting the less privileged.
“We are here at the children’s home to appreciate the efforts of the caregivers. It is part of our humanity; when God blesses us, we have a duty to bless the less privileged.
“My team and I present this token on behalf of the graduates of Course 8 and the Naval War College as part of the graduation ceremony. We hope this gesture encourages the caregivers to continue their excellent work because these children belong to everyone,” he said.

The Commandant urged people to make sacrifices for the children’s upkeep, emphasizing that the underprivileged need collective support to overcome hard times.
Rear Admiral Ahmed added, “There is a popular saying, ‘givers never lack.’ The more a person gives, the more God blesses them. Giving does not require having abundance; even the smallest act of giving counts as a sacrifice.
“Nigerians should endeavor to sacrifice and show love to the underprivileged to ensure they survive despite difficult times. We will continue to engage in initiatives aimed at uplifting the less fortunate in society,” Rear Admiral Ahmed said.
In response, Mrs. Obeten Davis, the Director of Social Welfare representing the Commissioner for Social Welfare, expressed deep gratitude for the college’s timely intervention. She noted that the items would significantly improve the quality of life for the children.
The representative of the children’s home described the gesture as an exemplary act of kindness worthy of emulation, highlighting that the donations would positively impact the children’s well-being.
The event, attended by staff and students of the Naval War College, featured a welcome song by the children and prayers for the graduates, Commandant, the college, and the Nigerian Armed Forces as a whole.
The donations included vital items such as food, clothing, educational supplies, and hygiene products, reinforcing the connection between the institution and the local community.
