THE National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN) gave the world a taste of its quality at the 38th Surajkund International Craft Mela 2025 in Faridabad, Haryana Province, India, from February 7 to 23.
The Surajkund Craft Mela is one of the largest cultural fairs in the world, featuring over 1,000 craft stalls, including a dedicated Nigeria pavilion showcasing Nigerian products.
Under the direction of its Artistic Director, Hajja Kaltume Bulama Gana, the National Troupe of the Troupe presented some of the country’s rich and diverse traditional dances, highlighting the country’s cultural heritage.
The well-choreographed performances, from Ekombi/Nyok, Sango Bata, Maliki, Egwu Odun, and Koroso to Sharo, showcased Nigeria’s cultural heritage and rich diversity.
Each event day was a captivating showcase of Nigeria’s unique blend of dance, drama, and music, leaving the audience fascinated by the country’s cultural richness.
The Nigerian contingent, led by the Director of the International Relations Department at the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hajia Zainab Ali-Biu, also included some officials from UNESCO.
The Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to India, Ubong Akpan Johnny, attended the event to support the Nigerian contingent and commended the Indian government for inviting Nigeria.
As Nigeria’s apex performing arts agency, the NTN’s participation in the Surajkund International Craft Mela 2025 not only reinforces its commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy and promoting Nigeria’s image and interests abroad but also serves as a powerful cultural ambassador, a source of pride for all Nigerians.
The Surajkund International Craft Mela has set a promising precedent for Nigeria’s future endeavours in the global cultural and creative economy.
