National peace a necessity —Clerics, CP

THE Chief Imam of Dutse in Jigawa State, Dr Umar Sani, said the nation’s security, peace and unity are necessities.

The Chief Imam made the disclosure in a sermon delivered at the Eid-el-Fitri prayer.

He said that “development of any society depends on peaceful leaving and unity of citizens.”

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Leye Oyebade, assured Muslims in the state of a hitch free celebration, urging them to use the period to promote peaceful co-existence.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu, the CP had put adequate security in place for the celebration.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, on Wednesday, advised Nigerians to embrace farming to produce adequate food for local consumption and export.

Abubakar gave the advice in Sokoto while delivering his Eid-el-Fitri message to the Muslim ummah.

He said: “Nigerians are really facing difficult times, occasioned by the global financial crunch, due to the falling prices of oil.

“But happily, God, in His infinite mercy has endowed Nigeria with vast fertile land, with each region having its own peculiar comparative advantage.”
