National Holy Trinity Grammar School old students celebrate maiden AGM

Published by

Holy Trinity Grammar School (HTGS) witnessed a remarkable turnout at the inaugural annual general meeting (AGM) of its national old students association, drawing nearly 1,000 alumni spanning classes from the 1970s to 2024 to the school grounds.

The event, which saw around 500 registered participants, aims to establish itself as a cherished tradition occurring each September, fostering nostalgia and camaraderie among graduates reconnecting after many years.

During the meeting, former students united in song, proudly singing the newly adopted national anthem, the Oyo State anthem, and the school anthem, setting a celebratory tone for the gathering.

In his welcome address, president of the association, Mr Adesina Idowu Adegoke, led a moment of silence to honour departed classmates.

He expressed gratitude for the efforts of previous leaders and presented a report outlining the association’s significant achievements.

Key milestones he highlighted included the establishment of a bank account for enhanced financial management, the initiation of quarterly meetings to boost member engagement, the implementation of annual dues for financial transparency, and the appointment of an alumni principal at the school.

Adegoke also mentioned the association’s support for the school’s inter-house sports competition, plans for registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), a review of the association’s constitution, and the formation of a Board of Trustees(BoT).

According to him, future proposals included infrastructure projects focusing on facility renovations, a commitment to academic support for students and teachers, recognition of distinguished alumni, promotion of social activities to strengthen alumni connections, and preparations for the school’s 60th anniversary celebration in 2026.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Akeem Adekunle Amodu of Lead City University (LCU), who emphasised the vital role of alumni associations in fostering school unity and facilitating future initiatives.

Discussions during the meeting addressed critical topics such as the urgent need for CAC registration, a shortlist of nominees for the Board of Trustees and the formation of a constitution review committee, aimed at finalising the association’s governing documents by December.

The treasurer, Mr Remi Akinyode, presented a financial report, which received unanimous approval from those in attendance.

The meeting concluded with alumni engaging in social activities that encouraged networking and reminiscing, marking a successful day dedicated to the future of HTGS.

The National Old Students Association urged alumni to actively participate in shaping the school’s future and preserving its legacy for generations to come.
Executive members announced that preparations for the next AGM are already underway, promising renewed excitement and engagement among HTGS alumn
