Nasarawa: Maku, Ombugadu reconcile, urge supporters to calm

Governorship candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Labaran Maku and Mr David Ombugadu, respectively, have reconciled their differences.

Maku and Ombugadu, after a reconciliation meeting at the instance of the Eggon Council of Elders in Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, where they hail from, urged their supporters to be peaceful.

The duo assured their supporters that they still remained brothers in spite of the fact that they were vying for the same seat.

They, therefore, urged their supporters to see the political contest as a game, and not a war that one had to attack or fight to kill.

According to Maku, the meeting is significant because it will send a message to detractors that they are still brothers even though they are both vying for the governorship of the state.

“I see politics as a football game where siblings can belong to different clubs, and that does not make them enemies.

“My supporters should not hate or attack anybody on account of them not supporting me.

“I want them all to be alive so that I will be able to help them if I am elected governor,” Maku added.

The APGA candidate further explained that his supporters should rather keep their PVCs safe, canvas for more votes and be ready to protect their votes to ensure that he won the next election.

On his part, Ombugadu said they were called by the council to discuss as members of one family.

According to him, though they may have a clash of interest in politics, they both have the interest of their people at heart; and so must honour the leadership of their community.

When asked the reason for calling the meeting,  the Chairman of the Elders’ Council, Mr Jatau Anga, said the council had no immediate comments on the matter.

Jatau, however, assured members of the public that the council would talk at the appropriate time.
