Nasarawa has highest number of quack medical doctors’ ― NMA Chairman

THE Chairman of Nasarawa State Chapter of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Dr Christopher Edeh has stated that the state harbours the highest number of quacks in the medical profession.

The Chairman who stated this in Lafia at the weekend, during the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of the association, where 15 committees were inaugurated including a committee to check the activities of quacks in the state, vowed to flush them out.

He explained that the association has inaugurated 15 committees to address the myriad of challenges affecting the profession in the state.

He added that, the committees would take up responsibility of building the association’s secretariat, carry out the anti-quackery policy as well as other functions expected of the committees.

“I want to inform you that it has been established that quackery has the highest prevalence in Nasarawa state and we want to address that, we have put in place a committee that will join forces with the state government through the ministry of health to check the activities of quacks in the medical profession in the state, ” he said.

Tribune Online reports that other committee set up during the OGM, according to the chairman includes; welfare, legislation, discipline among others in order to move the association forward.

However, the Chairman also disclosed that the association is mapping out plans on how to effectively manage lassa fever in the state.

“The issue of lassa fever in the state is also disturbing and the meeting paid great attention on the management of lassa fever. We want to inform our doctors on how to get the best management of lassa fever, to create awareness in the rural areas, “he explained.
