Ahead of the January 16, scheduled Supreme Court hearing on the Governorship election matter involving Mr. David Ombugadu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi A. Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leadership of the ruling APC has tasked its members and supporters to employ civility in their conduct, maintain decorum, mutual respect, and refrain from making utterances capable of inflaming passion.
This announcement came on Monday after the Nasarawa state police command signed a peace accord with the leaders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state ahead of the governorship Supreme Court judgment.
In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Douglas Otaru, and made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Monday evening, it was emphasized that, under no circumstances, should any party member or supporter author or publish unauthorized statements from any quarters, be it on social or mainstream media platforms.
The statement added that any statement on matters arising from the proceedings of the court, issued by any individual or appointee of the government, must be verified and edited by the media center of the party and that of the government house before its publication.
“To this end, we enjoin our teeming supporters to remain calm and refrain from any act capable of undermining the peace and stability of the state, either before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgment. While we urge our party supporters to adhere strictly to the terms and instructions by security agencies in the maintenance of law and order, we also wish to admonish the opposition PDP and its supporters to honor the peace treaty, observe all civilities and decorum in the interest of peace. Let it be known to us all that there must be a peaceful Nasarawa State for all before neither APC nor PDP can govern her,” Otaru said.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa state police command has signed a peace accord with the leaders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state ahead of the governorship Supreme Court judgment.
During the signing of the peace accord on Monday in Lafia, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, vowed to deal decisively with anyone trying to cause chaos before, during, and after the judgment in the state.
“This is with a view to ensuring peace before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgment. It is also expected that the party leaders would bring this peace agreement to all their loyalists and supporters across the state. The joint security committee has also resolved to work together towards ensuring sustainable peace in the state. Whoever goes against this resolve, no matter how highly placed in society, will regret his or her action.
The CP, therefore, called on all those planning evil against the state to have a rethink. “Information at the disposal of the command reveals that some faceless individuals are planning to stage a violent protest in the state before, during, and after the Supreme Court verdict on the governorship election.
CP Nadada assured both the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the joint security forces would be neutral.
The peace accord was done in the presence of other security agencies in Nasarawa.
The APC was represented by the party’s state chairman, Aliyu Bello, APC state secretary, Yarus Dakusa, while the PDP was represented by the state organizing secretary, Yahaya Bunu, PDP state secretary, Adamu Bako, woman leader, Hon. Stella Oboshi, and PDP zonal chairman, Isa Sule.
