Nasarawa govt promotes 6,277 secondary school teachers

NASARAWA State Government has promoted 6, 277 teachers in various secondary schools across the state, the Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Aliyu Tijani, has said.

Tijani made the disclosure while briefing Area Chief Inspectors of Education, in Lafia on Wednesday.

He said the promotion, which covered the period 2011 to 2015, also affected other supporting staff in the school system.

According to him, the beneficiaries comprise of 2, 515 on Grade Level 01-07, a total of 1, 512 on Grade Level 07- 09 while the rest were from 09 and 13.

“This gives us a total of 6, 277 teachers promoted across over 400 secondary schools we have in this state,” Tijani said.

The commissioner, however, said that the promotion would not attract financial benefit in line with an agreement reached between the state government and organized labour in the state.

He believes that in spite of the absence of financial reward, those affected would put in more efforts to improve the educational system in the state.

Also speaking, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Akwe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education said the promotion would spur the affected workers to do more in discharging their duties.

He admonished workers in the state to be prudent, shun acts of insubordination and laziness.
