Nasarawa: ALGON chair tasks commissioner-nominees on development

Nasarawa Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigerian (ALGON) Alhaji Aminu Muazu Maifata, has tasked commissioner-nominees to key into the developmental agenda of Governor Abdullahi Sule to shun actions capable of making them agents of underdevelopment as they were about to be sworn in.

Maifata urged them to rather focus on excellent service delivery in order to bring additional value to the Governor Sule-led administration.

Maifata who is also the Lafia local government chairman gave the advice in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tribune on Sunday in Lafia said gov Sule was already on the right track of making giant strides in the areas of development and inclusive government.

It would be recalled that on July 28, 2023, Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State submitted a list of 17 commissioner nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and possible confirmation as members of the state executive council.

The state assembly led by Abubakar Ibrahim Abdulahi screened 16 out of the 17 nominees that appeared for the screening.

The speaker said that a commissioner nominee, Haruna Musa from Nassarawa Eggon LGA did not appear for the screening, saying that he was indisposed at the moment.

The commissioner-nominees will be sworn in tomorrow, Monday 14th July 2023 by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The ALGON Chairman expressed excitement that the Sule administration was a reference point for continuity in governance, adding that the main task before the new commissioners should be how to add value to the administration.

He advised the commissioners that when sworn in, they should quickly settle down and familiarize themselves with the Nasarawa master plan for optimal development of the state.

“Governor Abdullahi Sule is eager to take Nasarawa state to a greater height. I advise the Commissioners-nominee whom were carefully selected by the governor to key into his developmental agenda, operate an open door policy for their easy assessment.

” The people of Nasarawa state should extend the maximum support given to the governor to the commissioners after their swearing-in tomorrow and be patient with them to settle down and and be familiar with their assignment”; Maifata said.

While congratulating the commissioners- nominee, the ALGON chairman said they should count themselves lucky to be part of an administration that has focused on service delivery with sacrifice and not self-seeking.

In the area of security, the two-term chairman assured that the security situation in the state would improve as measures have been put in place by security agencies to deal decisively with criminal elements.

He said that as part of security measures, movement of motorcycles and tricycles was restricted from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am in Lafia, to curtail the upsurge of killings, kidnapping and other related security concerns.

He added that the restriction would be reviewed with time depending on the security situation.
