The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has pledged to develop new strategies and foster collaboration to tackle the evolving trends in human trafficking.
The Director General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi made this commitment while unveiling activities for the 2024 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The 2024 theme, ‘Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons’ aims to promote a human rights-based approach to addressing trafficking vulnerabilities and strengthening criminal justice responses.
NAPTIP has lined up activities from July 28 to August 4, 2024, in collaboration with UNODC, IOM, ICMPD, and OHCHR, to raise awareness and reduce vulnerability to trafficking.
The celebration includes a female novelty match, community town hall dialogue, awareness walk, bootcamp for state task force members, survivor’s talent show, and online awareness campaign. Prof. Waziri-Azi urges everyone to join hands with NAPTIP to ensure a successful celebration and create a world where every child can thrive in safety and dignity.
NAPTIP’s commitment to combating human trafficking is crucial in addressing this global issue. The agency’s collaborative approach will help to make a significant impact. By working together, we can create a safer and more just world for all.
The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is a reminder that human trafficking is a serious violation of human rights and a form of modern-day slavery.
It affects millions of people worldwide, including children, women, and men. NAPTIP’s efforts are essential in preventing trafficking, protecting victims, and prosecuting perpetrators.
Prof. Waziri-Azi emphasized that NAPTIP’s activities and interventions are inclusive, involving various stakeholders. For the first time, NAPTIP will commemorate the World Day with the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) from The Gambia.
This collaboration demonstrates the agency’s commitment to regional and international cooperation in combating human trafficking.
The community town hall dialogue on July 29, 2024, will provide a platform for community stakeholders to voice their opinions and concerns, fostering engagement, transparency, problem-solving, inclusivity, and community cohesion. The dialogue will be aired live on Radio Nigeria from 10:30 am.
The awareness walk on July 30, 2024, will involve state task forces on human trafficking from 23 states across Nigeria. This event aims to raise awareness and demonstrate NAPTIP’s commitment to combating human trafficking.
NAPTIP’s efforts are crucial in addressing the evolving trends in human trafficking. By developing new strategies and fostering collaboration, the agency can make a significant impact in preventing trafficking, protecting victims, and prosecuting perpetrators.
